"This recipe calls for a batter-like dough and is baked on a pizzelle iron. In the Italian version, vanilla is replaced anise. Sift together the flour and baking powder, and blend into the batter until smooth. One of my fondest memories growing up was attending out synagogue's annual Purim Carnival. They went all out with games, face paint, and Pizzelle are traditional Italian waffle cookies made from flour, eggs, sugar, butter or vegetable oil, and flavoring Pizzelle can be hard and crisp or soft and chewy Preheat pizzelle iron and lightly coat with nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, butter, anise or vanilla extract, baking powder, and eggs. Bake as directed manufacturer or until golden brown, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Cool completely and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Classic Italian pizzelle cookies baked in the iron, but lightly scented with vanilla.
